Thanksgiving in Star Valley

Everyone came to Star Valley for Thanksgiving. They all arrived on Wednesday. The weather forcast indicated the best weather day was Thursday so we decided to get Christmas Trees before having turkey dinner. I was a nice day.

Grandma just couldn't find any trees.

We used the snowmobiles and found our trees. It was much easier than tromping through the forest.

Then it was time for some snowmobiling and tubing. The kids had lots of fun.

Todd got the price for the shortest tree.

Todd decided that Ivy needed a rest after Turkey Dinner.

Then Oakley had to teach Grandpa how to used the Ipad. What fun we had.

Gentry was hauling the candy for the parade around and protecting it. She was saving it for the parade.

Then whenever we were not on the snowmobiles going around the house, we were in the hot tub.

Even Grandma spent a little time with the kids, but she said they splash too much.

This was our first holiday that was consumed with Ipads and Ipods. We had so many at times on the network that we had to shut them all down and rebook the network so the online shopping could be done.

Saturday night of Thanksgiving weekend has always been the Holiday Light Parade in Afton. After the parad last year, the kids decided that they wanted to have a float in the parade.

So we put a golf cart and snowmobile on a trailer with lots of lights. We said "Star Valley is a great place WINTER OR SUMMER." They had 25 pounds of candy and managed to throw it all out.

It was a cold night, about 6 degress and I thought that they would rather watch than be in the parade. They assured me that particpating was better than watching and they want to do it again next year.

Then we took some pictures of the grandkids. This is why we like Star Valley so much. They love to come here.

Then we had our last lunch before everybody went home on Sunday.

Autumn got her birthday present early. It was a wonderful weekend to be together as a family. We are thankful to have such a great family that gets along so well with each other. Star Valley is for families.

First Snow of the Season

Yes it is October 6th and look at the snow. It did melt a few days later, but the snow came to stay un November. We will not see our grass until April now.

Another new Granddaughter

On September 17th Todd and Harmony had a new baby girl come into their home. Here name is Ivy Snow Saunders.

On the 23rd of September we were able to go see the new arrival. As you can see there is a very proud Grandma.

Beautiful Fall Colors so close

It was an odd year for the fall colors. The red leaves turned early and were beautiful. The aspens turned yellow very slowly during the fall. There were still a lot of green leaves when we received the first snows that took off the leaves.

It is still great to sit on the deck and watch all the color.

Another trip to watch Baseball

On September 10th we met Craig and family in Salt Lake for some baseball games of Carter and Jace. It was a lot of fun.

Jace is the catcher and Carter is pitching.

They did a great job.

What an arm that pitcher has!!!

Jace is quite a batter also.

Oh and Grandma had a great time with baby Evan.

More Busy Summer Fun

Well mid August found us in Jackpot Nevada for our annual Lions Golf Tournament. The best part is spending some time with our great friends, Frank and JoAnn Chadwick. We had a great time and even won a little money.

We represented our Scholarship Lions Club.

This is the 4th Green and the picture is
Lion Woody Voyles who watched for a Hole in One on this par 3 for many years. He was also know for his supply of Tootsie Rools here.

He was a great person and is missed dearly.

Just a mid August hail storm stacking up on the golf course.

On August 19th we traveled to Highland and watched Everett play football. What fun. His team won the final tournament at the end of the season.

Then we went to Salt Lake to a Bees Game at Spring Mobile Ball Park. Everett was selected to throw out the First Pitch

Oh did I tell you that Grandma loves baseball?

He was nervous but did a great job.

Marvin Saunders Family Reunion 2011

The 23rd of July weekend found the Marvin Saunders Family Reunion in Star Valley. Connie and Jill's families went rafting on the Snake River on Friday afternoon. Then on Saturday Tam and Dan arrived with Angie & her children. There was lots of food and fun. Some girls below cooling off in the wading pool.

Gentry had to get her hair pretty for everyone.

Oh and did I say there was food? Sometimes it is worn as well as eaten.

Little girls love to play dress up and show off.

And more games.

What a wonderful family.

We had a great weekend. It was a special time of bonding and we should do it more often.

Grandma's Boy Party 2011 Day 5

Day 5 found us back shooting the BB guns. All those BB's and nothing to kill.

Jace decided driving the golf cart was more fun than shooting. They wore out the grass driving around.

Then back to the fish pond.

Carter was the sucessful one this time.

Then the last night until the Saunders Reunion starts tomorrow and the families come.

The boys had a great time in Star Valley with Grandma.

Grandma's Boy Party 2011 Day 4

Day 4 found us at the lake. We started out on the lake fishing.

Again, fishing is boring, catching is fun. We did some fishing, but no catching.

So if you can't catch, you might as well have fun. So we started on the tubes.

First Everet was on the tube.

Then Carter had a turn. Then Jace gave it a try.

Oh yah, lets have a snack.

What a great day at the lake!!!!

Grandma's Boy Party 2011 Day3

Day 3 began with some yard work. Jace really wanted a skidster instead of a shovel and wheel barrow. Then one of the highlights of the party, the horseback ride.

Maria was the wrangler/guide and the boys loved it.

They had so much fun that they wanted to do it again.

After the horseback ride, it was time for an afternoon at the pool. More fun again.

Another great day!!!!

Grandma's Boy Party 2011 Day 2

Day 2 started out with more fishing.

Then off to golf lessons. They had fun learning from Corey.

Practice on the driving range with Corey.

After the lesson then it is out on the course to play 9 holes.

Following the golf outing it is time for some serious craft work with Grandma. Amazing what you can do with play dough that Grandma makes.

Then it is snack time before the baseball game.

Don't you just love the "Nerdy" ball player look?

Oh yes, we did not catch any fish this morning, so back to the pond tonight. More succesful tonight.

Another busy day with Grandma.

Grandma's Boy Party 2011 Day 1

The week between the Karl Shuldberg Reunion and the Marvin Saunders Reunion, Grandma had her summer "Boy Party". Day 1 started wih driving the golf carts. Then we had to shoot the BB Guns. It started with filling the guns with BB's in the drive way.

Then it was up to the "bubble pond" for some serious shooting.

Even Grandma had to show them how to do it.

Then the boys put sticks down a pipe that travel several hundred yards and come up in the bubble pond.

Then it is up to the fishing pond. Grandpa says "Fishing is boring, Catching is FUN"!!! The boys had fun.

Everett was first to bring one in.

Then Carter got his.

Finally Jace got one. What a great hour spent with success for all.

Then they even got to help with the cleaning.

What a busy day and it was only Day 1. What else can we do?

Grandma's 90th Birthday and Reunion

We got home from Seattle on Sunday July 10th. On the following Friday we had Eurdora's 90th Birthday Party and the Karl Shuldberg Family Reunion. Friday night there were 48 people spending the night and Saturday we had 103. It was great fun. These 2 pictures are putting up the canopies. It sort of looks like "how many Shuldbergs does it take to put up a canopy?"

Lots of visiting.

Then it was breakfast on Saturday morning. Yum Yum!!

Then the guest of honor. 90 great years and more to come. Below are Eudora and her sister Adela.

Then it was time for lunch for the 103 people. We did not even run out of food.

This was a great weekend with fun had by all. It was great to celebrate Eudora's Birthday. She is a great mom and grandmother. It was great to see the cousins get acquainted and end up friends. If you check out Facebook they are even friends there.

Glacier National Park

After leaving Seattle we traveled to Missoula Montana and then headed to Glacier National Park. It was a beautiful drive up into the mountains.

Lots of beautiful lakes, rivers and waterfalls.

It was a very windy day at Lake McDonald. Not quite as pretty as glassy water would have been.

This canyon had a lot of Mountain Goats. The white dot on the cliff below is a goat.

An interesting fact that was noted is that 150 years ago there were 180 glaciers. Now there are only 25 and they will all be gone by 2030.

Check out the little red bird on the exposed roots below. Very pretty.

This a great place to visit. Beautiful scenery. Nice trip.

Trip to Victoria

This is the Provincial Capital Building in Victoria. Victoria is the Capital of British Columbia.

We took a day trip to Victoria Canada. The following are some pictures of the Seattle skyline lleaving the pier.

Safeco and Qwest field home of the Mariners and Seahawks. Just a side note when we were at the Mariners game, it clouded up and looked like rain. I was expressing my frustration about leaving tthe umbrella in the car when the person next to us said, "Not to worry, they will just close the roof if it starts raining". I guess they think of everything.

Lions Parade in Seattle

One of the highlights of a Lions International Conventions is the Parade of Nations. This parade normally lasts about 4 hours. Lions from all the 172 nations march in this parade in costume of their nation.

This first picture has Idaho's own International Dircctor Gary D'Orazio who is completing his 2 year term at this Convention.

The incoming Lions International President is from China. The Chineese delegations had some exceptional costume.

Who would have thought that 50 years ago the Space Needle built for the Worlds Fair would be such an important part of the Seattle skyline.

Even in the dark it is still there.

Fun in Seattle

We spent an afternoon at the Ballard Locks. It is amazing to see the process of moving from Lake Washington to Sea Level. They move a lot of boats at the same time. This was a busy holiday weekend.

The boats in the locks are fasinating to watch. We did not get to see any salmon in the fish ladders.

Then it was off to a Mariners Game at Safeco Field. We saw them play the Padres and the Mariners were victorious.

It was interesting when some clouds came over and I was wishing that we had brought our umbrellas. Then the guys next to us said that you don't need an umbrella because they will just close the roof. Simply amazing.

The next event was a trip to Pioneer Square and a tour of underground Seattle. We learned a lot of the history of the city.

This was our tour guide. She really missed her calling in Standup Comedy. Lots of fun.

Traveling to Seattle

On Wednesday June 28th we left Star Valley to go to Seattle to the Lions International Convention. We spent the first night in Pendleton, Oregon. Thursday we traveled through the Columbia Gorge, then down to Salem to the State Capital. As you can see it is quite a unique building with a gold statue on top.

After the capital we stopped at Mt. St. Hellens.

Friday saw us at the Washington Capital Building in Olympia.

Nice water front in Olympia. We found a really neat farmers market by the water front.

Then we had our first token campout on the trip. I decided KOA is not too bad with a pool and WIFI.

Day 4 of the 2011 Boy Party

Well this day started out at the lake in the boat. As you can see 3 boys can still tease each other even on the boat.

Fishing was fun for a little while. They all took a turn holding a pole, but there was not much action.

As they say "Grandpa fishing is boring, but catching is fun". The fishing was better in the pond at the golf course. So when you are on the lake an not catching, you just turn to water fun.

Everett was the first to go on the tube.

Then Carter gave it a try.

But little Jace did it the longest and the fastest.

Boating is not complete without Grandma's snacks.

They spent a lot of time jumping off the boat and playing in the water. Grandma and Grandpa thought 67 degrees was a bit cool so we stayed in the boat.

With the boating done it was back home and another pillow fight. This time Jace used a pillow and it was a little more calm. No crying or hurts.

Then Everett and Carter wanted to shoot BB guns again. This time they found ants to shoot. Oh what fun.

They could not find any fish to shoot, but the BB's made a good sound in the water.

Jace said that he can shoot a BB gun any time. He elected to stay home and drive the golf cart. I think the grass is about worn out after all week.

Then it was back to the fish pond for some evening fishing.

It was not just sit back an watch as Grandma appears in this picture. It is untangling lines about every cast and lots of worn replacement.

Carter was the only catcher this time with 2 fish.

He decided that because 1 had eggs and one not, that they must be boy and gir fish. So they got to kiss.

The day ended as it has every night on the floor in the family room. Yes even Grandma slept on the floor with the boys.

The party ended with Craig and Mandy getting here Thursday Night. The boys took Craig fishing in the morning and Jace & Everett each caught a fish to just about even the catching. It was a fun week. Great GrandKids!!

2011 Boy Party Day 3

Day 3 started out at the fish pond again after breakfast and some golf cart riding. Yes this morning they each caught a fish. They fished off the 8th Tee Box and there were no golfers for the nearly 2 hours they were there.

After fishing Jace helped Grandma with some yard work.

Then it was off to horse back riding. As you can see they each had a horse. Even Grandma was able to show off her horse riding abilities.

Look at that cowboy Everett. What a horse.

Carter said that he had the best horse, but they all look the same to me.

Jace looks pretty little on that horse. It is a good thing that Maria is there to take care of them.

Then after horse riding it was off to the pool to cool off. As you can see there was fun for all.

Day 3 ended with more golf cart riding and smores by the campfire.

2011 Boy Party Day 2

Day 2 started out with fishing after such a sucessful day yesterday, but there were no fish to be caught this time. Then it was off to golf lessons. Korry was very patient and the boys had a great time.

After lessons there is nothing better than a round of golf. You just have to get the tee to go in.

There was a lot of improvement after the lesson.

Then some afternoon activities making clay and rolling it out into various objects. Yes even boys llike crafts.

Following crafts and snacks it is off to "NERDY" baseball.

One last chance to show off the fish before they are eaten.

All in all it was a great DAY 2!!!

Three More State Capitals

When you drive 2550 miles you are bound to get within 100 miles of a State Capital Building. Well we found 3 on our trip to Seattle to the Lions International Convention. The first one is the Oregon State Capital. Quite unique design from the rest.

Then it was off to Olympia to the Washington State Capital Building. I did not realize that George Washington is on their State Flag.

Following the drive through Glacier National Park, we ended up in Helena and found Montana's State Capital.

You know the school teacher is pretty happy to be able to get three on one trip.

Grandma's Boy Party 2011 Day 1

Carter caught the first fish, but I deleted it where it should be in the list, so I added it at the beginning.

Well it is finally time for Grandma's Girl Party. Who would have thought that she could get so much done the first day in 5 hours. It started with golf cart driving.

Then on to the BB Guns. First we load those little balls.

Even Grandma knows how to do that.

Then we finally get to shoot cans.

Even Grandma is able to hit the cans. See boys that is how it is done.

Then we have a unique feature which they drop sticks and pine cones done a diversion and it goes underground. It bubbles up in this pond a minute later. Fun to watch.

Even more fun to play in the ice cold water.

Then it off to the fish pond. You know what the boys say? "Grandma fishing is boring, catching is fun.

Carter caught the first fish. Then Everett caught the next one.

Jace rounded it out so that all three boys were able to catch a fish.

Oh look mom it is soo cute.

See we all caught a fish.

Then we even cleaned them. Yes Everett figured his must be a girl because his had eggs inside. Then it was dinner, more golf cart driving, smores, and videos to fall asleep. What a first day!!! Now they say they want to repeat all that and golf. WOW Grandma is way too ambisious for me.

Grandma's Girl Party 2011

With Grandma's broken leg, last years Girl Party was cancelled. So Grandma made up for it this year. We had a condo in Park City. Lots of fun to be had. The first thing upon arrival was to get to the swimming pool. The first of many trips during the week.

Then a hearty meal before the Outlet Mall visit.

What would a Girl Party be without shopping. "How do you think it looks?"

I wonder if this will fit? Hum!!!

These are outrageous!! Would you really wear these?

"Grandma I really like these. What do you think?"

Pretty cool, huh.

After a hard day of shopping, then it is time for some serious crafts. It is so fun to work together.

Then it was a fun day at the Park City Activity Center. Oakley really had fun on the rides.

How many times can you ride the Alpine Slide in one day? Maybe we set a record.

Bungee Jumping is a lot of fun.

Everybody had sometime on the Carousel. More fun.

Then there was some serious climbing on the wall. Notice that you don't see Grandma on the wall. I wonder why.

Bye Grandma. We will see you when we come down the slide.

The coaster is fun also.

Then back to more crafts. Beads and more beads.

The Grand Closing to the Girl Party was a trip to "Build a Bear". See how great the Bears are.

We all had a fantasic time. Grandma you are the GREATEST!!!

One Happy Grandma

Well Craig and Mandy had a new baby boy join their family on May 25th. He weighed 6 lbs. 12 oz. and 19.5 inches. We went to Logan today to see him. Grandma was in heaven. He looks pretty tiny to me.

Jace and Carter were hard at work in the garden making trenches before the garden get planted. What a great day to play outside.

Then it was time to play some baseball. Carter and Jace are both playing ball and of course they are on different teams. We watched Carter at baseball practice with his team for a while.

It was a great day for a drive to make Grandma happy.

May 1st in Star Valley

When you have 160 percent of normal snow winter lasts a lot longer. These pictures were taken yesterday.

Still plenty of snow.

Well we have moved the snowmobiles and snow blower to storage. Now the summber toys (boat, golf carts and lawn tractor) are back at the ranch.

This big green spot is the golf course 10th green. All the greens are open and in great shape. Too bad there is still a foot of snow on the fairways.

It is nice to see that on the South side of the house the snow melts first and the flowers look pretty good.

A Nice April Weekend in Wyoming

Well it has been 9 years since the Olymics in Salt Lake, but look what we seen in the train yard in Green River Wyoming. Saturday was a beautiful day in Green River. We were able to do some spring yard work and even mow the old winter grass off.

Then we take a Sunday afternoon drive to Star Valley and there is still 2 feet of snow. 6 inches of new snow since last weekend. Needless to say, we will not be mowing the lawn here for a while.

We did get a few more daffodils this week. I am sure spring is coming. Can you beleive that we want to retire here?

Conference Weekend in Star Valley

Well as you can see we will not be playing golf for a few more weeks. Still lots of snow, but it can be lots of fun. Shane and Todd brought their girls up for the weekend. It felt like a warm up for Grandma's Girl Party this summer.

This picture is looking out over the 10th green. It still has 2 feet of snow, but they have sprinkled some black powder to help the snow melt faster.

Lots of fun riding on the snowmobiles and riding on the tubes. With the snow settled down and melting a little, the snow does not fly all over you as it does when it is powder.

Yes this is a snowmobile upside down between the tree and the bridge. Can you believe no one was hurt and the snowmobile was fine.

We like to see how many girls we can fit in a snow cave while we are having fun.

Then if you don't find a cave, you can build some. We had a contest to see if it could be built faster in the front yard or backyard.

Of course you can't have a Girl Party without crafts and sewing. It was tons of fun.

As you can see the Dad's were very motivated to help. That's why we have Grandma.

The encouraging evidence that spring might come sometime is noticing that the snow melts away from the Southside of the house first. You can see that Joyce's daffodils have sprouted and a couple of yellow blumes starting to show. Hooray!! Summer might get here by August.

March 20th in Star Valley - YOU CAN'T TRUST A GROUNDHOG

The calendar might say spring, but as you can see there was still 3 feet of snow last weekend. It is starting to melt a little. With this much snow you know the golf course will not be open on April 1st.

Missing Brother Doug

Earlier this month my Brother Doug passed away. It was a sad time and we really miss him. It means so much to have family and friends express their friendship and sympathy.

Doug's true red U of U colors were a big part of the memories. He was proud of his cement truck with the U of U on the side.

We have some great memories with Doug and know that he is in a better place now with his Dad.

Ice Hockey at the Olympic Oval

On February 4th we traveled to Salt Lake to watch Jace and Carter play some Hockey Games. They were playing Hockey at the Olympic Oval. It is quite a facility. We were watching hocky on the center ice sheet. There was a speed skating event going on around the outside of the center sheet. Then on the outside of that is a running track that had a high school track meet going on.

It was really great to see how much these guys have progressed in their Hockey this year. Lot's of fun.

And who says Grandma isn't having fun with Gentry?

New Years in Star Valley

We all got together in Star Valley to celebrate the New Year. Oakley will be Grandpa's Girl if he will read to her. She has lots of books and Grandpa will read for hugs. Then there is a lot of time on the snowmobiles. Even Gentry at a year old likes to go for a ride.

What fun for the younger onesw on the small snow machines.

Tubes behind the snowmobiles are lots of fun.

Once in a while we need a tow to get back.

Nice boots. WOW!!

Then we get to the ice skating pond. We have some hard core hockey players in the family. Way to go Carter and Jace.

We really did have a great Holiday. It is so much fun to be together as a family. Lots of Love for all. Thanks for making it so much fun for Grandma and Grandpa.

Pre Christmas in Salt Lake

Well the weekend before Christmas we all got together in Salt Lake City. Grandma and Grandpa went Friday Night on our 39th Wedding Anniversary. The rest came Saturday Morning. Lots of fun getting together.

Pretty Hot Stuff!!

Then there was swimming.

We did some gift exchanges on Saturday Night following a big day of fun.

Saturday Night also brought visiting the lights and pictures on the Main Street Plaza.

Grandma and Grandpa are having FUN! Can you tell?

Sometimes the FUN is too much.

Even Carter with his Hockey Jersey. Oh what a kid.

Have you ever spent 3 hours at the Discovery Center with 8 kids? It is a good thing that the 4 older ones could take care of themselves.

It was a great Christmas Celebration with our family together. Next time will be New Years Eve together in Star Valley.

U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree from Wyoming

This is the first time that the State of Wyoming has been able to provide the US Capital Christmas Tree. It was taken from the Bridger Targhee National Forest near Jackson Hole. It was selected several months ago and a landscaping company from Jackson has been nurturing it. They have fertilized and watered it to make look its best. Before cutting they sprayed it with a waxy substance to keep the needles. It has been a major process to cut and ship it. Last Friday it was in Rock Springs. Joyce took her 3rd Grade to see it. It was enclosed but below you can see some plexy glass windows with holes to view and feel it.

It was on an exta long trailer. It has been traveling in Wyoming and left today to make many stops throughout the US before making it to the capitol. They event tracking the travel of the tree by satelite on a website www.trackthetree.com It is pretty fun to watch the progress. You can learn more about the tree at the Casper Star Newspaper at http://trib.com It is pretty exciting for Wyoming as it is the first time in history that we have provided the tree.

Five years ago I participated in a Leadership Wyoming Program. We traveled to several places around Wyoming learning about natural resourses, education, legislative aspects, medical and social aspects in the State.

Each fall we have an Alumni Institute further learning and reviewing many of the things we experienced. This year it was in Star Valley. It was a great experience even after living there for 7 years. Star Valley is still an amazing place.

The pictures below are of an outstanding natural feature. Intermittent Spring is the world's largest cold water intermittent spring. Afton as applied to make this a Wyoming State Park. The following is a link to a video web page of the spring

It is really amazing to see the water stop and the canyon get quiet. Then the water starts up again and has a loud roar.

What a fantastic natural wonder of Wyoming.

Even beautiful colors in the Swift Creek Canyon.

Another amazing fact about Star Valley is that they have had aircraft manufacturing for 50 years. Originally they manufactured agricultural spray planes. They have been manufacturing Aviat Husky's bush planes and Pitts acrobatic planes for the past 20 years. It was interesting to hear how much 9/11/01 affect a small manufacturer in Star Valley Wyoming. Their employment and production is still down one third since then. It is interesting to see them create a tubular aluminum frame.

Then cover it with fabric and several coats of resin to make it as hard as metal.

What a beautiful finished product and built in downtown Afton Wyoming.

We also visited the Freedom Arms manufacturer of the 454 Cassull Pistol. It is one of the most accurate pistols made and hand manufactured in Freedom Wyoming. It was really good to be in Star Valley again.

Fall Colors change every year

The colors are different every year. Check out the dates on the first 3 pictures taken last year. They came earlier this year and left sooner. They did not seem as vivid.

Fall is still one of the most beautiful seasons in Star Valley.

Just in case you have not noticed, I have not done any blogging all summer. Not just because of having 2 yards to take care of and Joyce surgery recovery, but my computer has not allowed me to do a new post.

I did not have any pictures from the 4th of July but all the kids came to Star Valley. We did fireworks, swimming, playing ball, games and lots of good food.

Joyce is recover to the point we could play in our Lions Sight Foundation golf tournament in Jackpot. She brought the term handicap in golf to the max. She wore her boot brace, used the crutch to go from the golf cart to the ball. Then she hit the ball and hobbled back to the cart. The embarassing part was that we used more of her drives than mine.

All Frank and I could do was just stand and watch.

The most exciting part was that we tied for low gross and won low net in our flight. We had a great time again with our great friends the Chadwicks. What a great weekend.

Craig's Birthday in Green River

Craig decided to bring his family to Green River on his Birthday to do some fishing. Well we went to the Splash Park. The playground equipment was fun too.

We went to the County Fish Pond because we always catch some fish there. You're right, no fish but we did catch some Crayfish. Oh what fun the pinchers are.

Then Carter decided to see how many tooth picks he could put in his mouth. What cute teeth.

Of course we have to use the hot tub several times a day. Oh what fun!!!

We decided to try Bass fishing first. No bites, but lots of fun when we tied off to the dock to fish from there.

Jace decided that he could handle the worms. Look how it stretches out in his hand.

Carter handled the worms also.

Even Gentry was having a great time.

But Grandpa can fix it up. He just can't get the fish to bite the hook.

Then we had the birthday party. Craig got a Red Rider BB Gun from Grandma so he can show his boys how to shoot. Oh what fun, they have their own BB Gun's.

Craig even got to help the boys build his cake. Check out Grandma on the crutches.

It was a fun weekend even if we did not catch any fish. After Bass fishing for a while we decided to troll, but the wind came up so we had to go in.

Summer Changing Event

Well on Friday May 21st Joyce and I hurried up to Star Valley to get the lawn mowed before the snow that was supposed to come on Saturday. As you can see below the snow did come on Saturday, but we did not get the job done on Friday night.

While Joyce was moving the weed whip cord, she slipped on the little hill in the front yard. Her back leg did not slip and she broke her leg. We were at the hospital by 8:30. She had surgery on Saturday morning. She now has a rod in the middle of her big bone and plates and screws in the little bone between the ankle and the knee.

The plates were put on both sides of her smaller bone and connected with screws. The cast came off Wednesday afternoon and we have been changing the dressing every other day. Tuesday morning we go to the Doctor again and see what is next. He said it will be at least 8 weeks. School is done for Joyce. She missed the last 2 weeks.

The incision in the knee is where they inserted the rod in the middle of the big bone. Notice all the staples. She will never make it through the airport again.

In Star Valley there is always a dream at the end of the rainbow. We will over come.

Gentry Blessing Day

On March 6th we all went to Craig's for Baby Gentry's Baptism. It was great to have Jill bring Grandma up for the event. Below Todd is have a great visit. Isn't she just the cutest Baby you have ever seen?

This is one of the most loved baby's in the world. Of course Mom does, but look how much these two brothers love her. Jace even says he is going to marry her. What fun.

It was a great time to get the family together. We all have sunch great love as a family.

What a great day. Thanks to Connie and Dave for hosting a Great Birthday Party for Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma Saunders. Marie's Birthday is actually December 25th, but trying to have a party on Christmas Day just does not work. We had the oldest and the youngest. Below is Gentry, Craig & Mandy's 6 week old baby girl.

Even candles on the cake. Oh what fun.

And Woosh!!! There goes the candles. What a great job.

Connie had lots of help cutting the cake. Ella and Summer are real helpers for their mom.

We sure missed having Doug here to complete the family. It is great to get together and enjoy the friendship and love that we share as a family.

We sure love being with our wonderful mother.

As you can see Tam and Dan are still in love after all these years.

Cousins sure seem to have fun when they get together. Autumn and Jace really like to be together.

This was really a great day together. It seems like we just don't get to see each other often enough. We were able to watch a DVD and reflect on some happy memories over the years. What a highlight seeing Dad sing to Mom "WE'VE BEEN CHUMS FOR 60 YEARS". Our Mom and Dad set such a great example for their posterity. Our responsibility is to live up to the principles that they taught us.

Thanks for being the Greatest Mom ever. We love you.

President's Day Weekend 2010

What a great weekend in Star Valley. With a foot of new snow on top of the other 2 feet there was lots of snow. Three days and 5 snowmobiles can really wear out the snow. Jace was working hard to keep the snow off the deck. That just made the pile higher to jump into.

Who says that cousins can't be best friends. The Disney Channel even makes it to Star Valley, so it was not outdoor time all weekend.

The weather was so nice that we were able eat lunch on the deck and work on the tans.

This used to be a foot of new powder snow. No powder snow left now.

Who new a ditch could be so much fun to drive through.

What a fun weekend. We just wish Todd and his family could have been with us. Also Mandy had to stay home with sick Gentry.

Newest Grandbaby and Carter Birthday

Well Grandma thought she had a whole bunch of pictures of new Baby Gentry, but we had a camera malfunction. But aren't Jace and Gentry cute? We boys are getting out numbered again and the grand daughters are happy to point that out.

It was also Carter's Birthday so Grandma had to help with the hockey equipment. She liked red and blue hockey sticks.

It was a fun Sunday afternoon to visit Craig and Mandy. The grandchildren are great too.

New Years Day

Joyce and Bob were lucky enough to spend the week from Christmas through New Years in Star Valley. What a great time. Shane, Jen, Paige, and Hailey came up on New Years Day. As you can see from the pictures below, we have lots of snow and fun for all.

Yes we have the pile of snow that is shoveled off the deck.

I wonder if I am brave enough to jump?

Why not!!! You only live once. Yes even your hair flies up. What fun this is.

As you can see in this picture, the snow is not as deep as usual. We did get about a foot of snow during the week we were there. Can't wait to be here full time.

Family Christmas at Criag's Home

We all got together at Craig's home the day after Christmas. It was really great to see all the grandchildren having such a good time together. Oakley was taking it all in with her bear. Yes grandma always gives pajamas for Christmas. Even Paige is not too old. Can't you see how excited she is?

Grandma keeps the paper cleaned up and out of the way. Oh what fun.

What fun it is to open presents and compare with your friends.

We had a great day together. As you can see above, Grandpa even got to bond with Oakley. It is great to have such a close family and we are able to share our love with each other.

This Christmas Season gives us the opportunity to appreciate the things we are blessed with.

The Big Fire in Mud Lake

Christmas Day we went out to Mud Lake and visited with Grandma Shuldberg. The week before there was a gas explosion at the station in Mud Lake. As you can see from the pictures, the semi tractor and one of the tanker trailers burned to the ground. Three of the bulk tanks were destroyed. Flames could be seen for miles. This was the most excitement in Mud Lake in a long time.

Snow in Star Valley

When Carter and Jace were up for Thanksgiving they took stacked up some pallets to make a jump for their snowmobiles. As you can see in the pictures, it is pretty well covered by snow.

You can also see our cross country ski tracts going past the jump. We went out on the golf course and followed some of the snowmobile tracks down the fairway. It will definately be a White Christmas in Star Valley.

Christmas Trees are fresh in the mountains

So what do you do when you cut your Christmas Tree? Of course, you let the grandkids decorate it.

If you get a tall enough ladder, you can get to the 12 foot top. It is a good thing someone was holding the ladder.

Grandma can I have a decoration to put on? Faster, faster Grandma.

Oh yea, the best part of getting trees is the sledding on the mountain. Isn't it great to have trees within 10 miles of home and the price is right at $5.

Oakley was not sure about the sled, but the snow was OK.

This was the snow around the house. As you can see too much to golf and not enough to snowmobile around the golf course

All in all it was a great holiday weekend. We are very thankful to have such a close family and be able to get together.

Star Valley Fun at Thanksgiving

Well the whole family was able to come to Star Valley for Thanksgiving. As you can see below, all Grandma's Kids have aprons to help her cook. Even the boys have their own aprons at Grandmas house.

With the sheet on the deck we are ready for a popcorn party. Yes Grandma leaves the lid off the popcorn popper and the kids try to catch and eat it all.

Then we moved inside and made Turkeys for the Thanksgiving Table. But Oakley thought they were good enough to eat now.

Yes you use icing, vannila wafer, gum drops and candy corn. It is a good thing Grandma is there to help.

Hailey says to Grandma they are too cute to eat.

If you hold your tongue just right, they are even better.

Even the boys can make turkeys.

Oh what fun a cool Grandma can have with the kids.

SNOW is a 4 letter word

Ok so we leave beautiful Star Valley on Sunday afternoon. Yes there was a little snow on the mountainside, but it started snowing in Green River Sunday night. Look what we work to on Monday morning.

What a Difference a Week Can Make

The red leaves are going away, but notice the snow on the mountainside. This part of the yard was seeded with grass seed. It is starting to come in.

Some of the aspens are starting to turn in the valley.

It was a pretty cold weekend. But it was very relaxing with not a lot of work to do.

Fall Leaves 2009

It has been 3 weeks since the Sod Party. The grass is coming in really great. I think a few of the pallets were dryer than the rest and look a little lighter in the pictures, but it is growing well.

The bushes on the mountainside are really red right now. Only a few of the Aspens are starting to turn. They get reall yellow when the red is about gone.

Fall is a great time at the Ranch. The forcast is for snow next weekend.

After laying sod on Saturday, we did get some family pictures on Sunday. Cute Kids!!!!

This is what Star Valley is all about, family and fun. They like to come to Star Valley a lot more than Green River. It feels like going home again.

Finally Grass

The Semi Truck load of sod was 9,000 square feet. Everyone helped as we started Friday night and finished up by mid morning on Saturday.

Paige wanted to know if Grandma thought it was straight?

We did have a great crew that really worked hard.

9,000 square feet of sod is 16 pallets. Oh what fun.

It was so great to see grass that I just could not stop taking pictures. You all come and visit!!!!

Saturday and Sprinklers July 31st

What a fun Saturday. Shane Craig and families came to do the sprinkler system in Star Valley. Yes in 1 day we say 1100 feet of pipe, 43 sprinkler heads and 10 valves. Jace is telling Grandma how to adjust the sprinkler. Grandma and Grandpa know how to rake rocks and smooth it out.

Shane thinks we have pulled enough pipe. Now we have to install the sprinkler heads.

Look who is using the controls below. Carter in now the offical backhoe operator.

Who needs a trencher when you can pull the pipe with a machine like this?

Who needs a backhoe when you have a shovel like Jace?

Now we know how to install the sprinklers. Way to go Jen.

It was a long hard day, but we now have sprinklers. Someday we want to go and play.

More Boy Party 2009

Whoops!! We almost forgot the Circus at Grandma's Boy Party. Check out the Elephant in the background. Jace's biggest memory of the Circus was the Elephant peeing in the garbage can.

The Trip Home

Who would have thought that a building in the middle of South Dakota with corn cobbs nailed on the side would be such a tourist draw. But it really was pretty cool and a good break. The from and side of the building have these murals. They change them every year at a cost of about $190,000. They were puting up some of the grass to frame the murals.

These workers were wrapping the grass into bundles to put on the building.

Below is the St. Louis Arch and the Alamo.

Below is the Golden Gate Bridge and the Grand Canyon. Below is Wall Drug. It takes up nearly the entire block. It reminded me of a giant Hamilton Store in Yellowstone. Again a nice place for a break.

We traveled to Minneapolis via I80 and I35. The main attractions were the State Capitals and center of the country as seen on previous Blogs. The trip home was via I90. The 400 miles across South Dakota has the Corn Palace and Wall Drug as the main sites.

We arrived in Casper about 9:30 Friday Night, but that was after gaining an hour with the time change. It really did feel like 10:30. Just a short 4 hours home on Saturday.
